2023 Ford Transit

A white 2023 Ford Transit is shown angled left.

The Ford Transit has been a go-to solution for many commercial businesses looking for a sturdy, durable, modular van platform for work, business, travel, hauling, or just basic passenger travel. The Transit has been known for its versatility as a passenger van since 1965, and the 2023 Ford Transit is no exception. The Transit has also been competing with other vehicles in the segment, such as the Ram ProMaster and GMC Savana Cargo Van, but for 2023, Ford is expanding the role of the Transit in significant ways. The big new addition for the year is the all-new off-road-themed model, in addition to an update to the vehicle’s infotainment suite to align it with other popular Ford models.

The 2023 Ford Transit’s biggest new feature is the Transit Trail model, which is designed to give van-life enthusiasts an amazing van platform to utilize for living life off the grid and off the pavement. The Transit Trail is designed with an overhauled suspension for off-road traversal, including a 3.5-inch lifted suspension, a wider track of 2.75 inches, and 16-inch wheels paired up with Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse all-terrain tires. The Transit Trail is also equipped with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and is mated to the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. The Transit Trail is also available in both medium and high-roof models, along with a high-roof extended-length variant.

All Transit trims have also been updated with the all-new Ford SYNC 4 infotainment suite with a 12-inch HD touchscreen. You can get the 2023 Ford Transit in multiple configurations, colors, and trims. The Transit is available as a Cargo Van, Passenger Van XL, and Passenger Van XLT. The Transit Trail can also be branched off of the Transit Cargo Van trim. These trims can be configured in three different roof heights, including a Low Roof, Medium Roof, and a High Roof. The Transit is also available in three length variations, including Regular, Long, and Extended. There are also two different drivetrains available: rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. You can get the 2023 Transit in nine different colors, including Oxford White, Race Red, Agate Black, Ingot Silver, Carbonized Gray, Avalanche Gray, Abyss Gray, Blue Mist, and Blue Metallic.

Capacity

A large part of the appeal of the Ford Transit is that it has a lot of space and capacity to house many passengers and payload. This capacity is handled by the powertrain setup, which is made possible by two different engines. There is a 3.5-liter V6 that manages 275 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque and an optional 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 that produces 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. So you can get more towing and performance scalability out of the 2023 Transit.

Seating Configurations

The powertrains help propel the Transit along with its capacity to extend from a basic two rows of seats all the way up to five. This means you can seat anywhere between five and fifteen passengers in the Transit across the multiple available rows, depending on the wheelbase. The wheelbase can extend from the regular 130 inches to the long 148 inches, all the way up to the extended design for the additional rows.

Cargo Volume

This affords you a lot of interior cargo capacity and volume within the Transit, especially based on the roof option you go with. Depending on the roof you choose, you have the ability to utilize 315 to 487 cu.ft. of cargo volume. This opens up a lot of options and versatility when it comes to the space and interior capacity of the Transit, depending on if you’re using it for daily family travel or commercial transportation and hauling.

Convenience

A large part of what makes the 2023 Ford Transit so useful is its convenience features, such as being able to make use of the available ebony-cloth seating material with 10-way power heated driver and 10-way front passenger seats. This adds an extra layer of comfort and convenience inside the Transit, especially for long travel sessions or lengthy commutes to and from a destination.

An Interior That’s Ready for Every Season

Available all-weather floor mats or heavy-duty floor mats are available, which can be extremely useful if you have to pick up or drop off passengers during rainy or snowy seasons where mud, dirt, or slush can get tracked into the vehicle. You also have features like automatic rain-sensing window wipers, which cut out the need to have to think about that while you’re driving. Assist handles, cargo lighting, floor covers, and driver-controlled air conditioning all help to make the interior of the Transit feel comfortable and convenient for both the driver and passengers.

Infotainment

Other features that come from standard tech implementations like FordPass Connect, so you can remotely activate and interact with the vehicle from your smartphone, as well as the updated Ford SYNC 4 infotainment suite. You have standard access to a 12-inch touchscreen with the 2023 Ford Transit, along with access to telematics, availability of SiriusXM with 360L, and HD Radio. This also includes access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, plus the optional infotainment features such as built-in navigation support with traffic sign recognition and intelligent speed assist with intelligent adaptive cruise control.

Ford Co-Pilot360

And thanks to the Ford Co-Pilot360 safety features, you have forward collision warnings, an available 360-degree camera with split-view for parking and reversing, as well as a reverse sensing system that makes use of blind assist 1.0, a side-sensing system, and enhanced parking with reverse braking assistance. Combined with the post-collision braking, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, and the lane-keeping system with blind-spot monitoring, and you have a vehicle that makes it very convenient to travel safely from one destination to the next. The automated systems and alerts are perfect for staying alert and attuned to what’s happening on the road while driving in the Transit.

Utility

There are a lot of utility features available and standard for the 2023 Transit that make handling the vehicle easier both in terms of daily driving and in terms of commercial transportation. For instance, features like wiper-activated headlamps make it easy to focus on the road instead of flipping switches and trying to keep track of practical functions like the headlamps. But if you do need to flip switches and maintain control of the Transit’s functionality, there are upfitter switch modules available depending on how you have the Transit outfitted, whether you’re trailering and towing or ferrying passengers around. On the subject of towing, with the Transit Van you can tow up to 6,900 lbs worth of cargo.

Keeping You in Control On and Off the Road

You also have AdvanceTrac to help keep you steady on the road with traction control and stability management, which is essential whether you’re doing a lot of highway driving or a lot of navigating streets in urban environments. Getting into and out of the Transit is also made easy thanks to the availability of power running boards. An available power sliding door is also a great feature to have for getting items and passengers into and out of the vehicle with ease.

Power Options

You can also use emergency towing with the exterior tow hooks on the rear of the van. Additionally, utilities such as multiple USB ports for charging devices, multiple auxiliary 12-volt power points, and the availability of dual AGM batteries are all useful for when you need the Transit to handle multiple electronic devices or for charging or operating certain tools. You can also have the Transit outfitted with an auxiliary fuse panel with a high-spec interface connector to simplify replacing fuses in case you need to switch fuses while on the go.
